‘Blaga’s Lessons’ dominates Karlovy Vary 2023 winners
Stephan Komandarev’s suspense drama Blaga’s Lessons led the winners at the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), taking three prizes including the Crystal Globe Grand Prix.
The eighth feature from Bulgarian filmmaker Komandarev also received the best actress prize, for Eli Skorcheva; and a non-statutory Grand Prize from the ecumenical jury.
The awards were announced on Saturday, during the closing ceremony, with a jury consisting of Oscar-nominated actress Patricia Clarkson, Slovenian director Olmo Omerzu (Family Film, Winter Flies); Sundance festival programmer John Nein and Irish actor Barry Ward (The End of the F***ing World).
