‘NEW DAWN FADES’ leaves Locarno IFF with Best Feature Boccalino d’Oro of the Independent Film Critics Award

Gürcan Keltek’s second feature, following his multi-award winning “Meteors” (First Feature & Boccolino d’Oro Film Critic’s Award at FF Locarno), won the Best Feature Boccalino D’Oro Award of the 24th Independent Film Critic’s Awards of the Locarno IFF.
Produced by Vigo Film and Co-Produced by Slingshot Films & Fidalgo, the film follows Akın, who relentless, angry, and shell-shocked from being stuck in the system of hospital ins and outs, is well aware that his old life is long gone. He has become unable to leave his family house except for occasional visits to religious monuments in Istanbul. During those visits, he falls into a state of ecstasy as he tries to take refuge in God. These divine structures trigger something in him. As he loses touch with his true self, his mind shifts into another reality.
“Spectacularly atmospheric horror.”
“A film that may be about the outer reaches
of imagination, where cinema is created.”
The Film Verdict“DP Peter Zeitlinger (responsible for several late
period Werner Herzog films), drifts with such gradual elation
we’re left eternally waiting for something nasty to pop up,
the ambience instilled in the production of the film is quite superb.”
IonCinema“An ambient and darkly poetic film.”
“A testament to Keltek’s singular vision and well worth
a watch for those who like their cinema contemplative.”
